Dear friends,

In 2021, UrbanPromise Nashville began with 17 elementary students, six StreetLeaders, and a lot of hope for what this little community might become.

On Monday, our sixth season begins. This week, our building has been full again as StreetLeaders have gathered for orientation, training, and preparation for our students to return next week. We have three new staff members— including two former interns— a brand-new Program Assistant position, and more new StreetLeaders joining our team than we've had in years.

But there is one new StreetLeader we're especially excited about.

For the first time, we have hired a StreetLeader who was once a student in our program. And not just any student — Morgan was a third grader when we began back in 2021, one of those original 17. It's hard to describe what that means to us.

From the beginning, we've wanted to create a community where young people are welcomed and known, discover who God created them to be, grow into leaders—and eventually become the ones creating that kind of community for the kids coming behind them.  Just over five years later, we're beginning to watch that circle close.

And it comes at a time when the work of welcome feels especially important, as many of the refugee and immigrant families we love continue to live with tremendous uncertainty and fear. That fear isn't just about the future — it's part of their daily lives right now. We can't take all of that fear and uncertainty away, but we can decide how we will show up in the middle of it. And we are choosing, as we have from the beginning, to show up with welcome, compassion, and love.❤️
